Brigade Hotel Ventures (BHVL) is committing ₹1,100 crore to expand its Chennai footprint, a strategic move that underscores the city’s growing weight in South India’s hospitality market. The investment forms part of BHVL’s ₹3,600-crore plan to nearly double its portfolio to 3,300 keys over the next three to four years.

Chennai’s Role in BHVL’s Growth Strategy

The company, which entered Tamil Nadu in 2017 with its 202-key Holiday Inn Chennai OMR IT Expressway, now targets three new properties in the city. These include the Courtyard by Marriott Chennai World Trade Centre (near-term), followed by the luxury JW Marriott Chennai OMR and Grand Hyatt Chennai ECR by 2029-30, as outlined in its FY26 annual report.

Vineet Verma, Director of BHVL, confirmed Chennai’s allocation represents roughly a third of the total expansion capital. The city’s IT corridor focus—catering to corporate travelers and IT/ITeS firms—aligns with BHVL’s existing operational model.

Portfolio Expansion and Market Position

BHVL currently operates nine hotels with over 1,600 keys across Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, Mysuru, and Gujarat’s Gift City. The upcoming pipeline includes nine properties across six cities, adding 1,700 keys to its inventory. Key locations beyond Chennai include Bengaluru, Kochi, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vaikom Island.
