The ICC has approved a USD 12.82 million loan for Cricket West Indies, a lifeline for the financially strained board after years of losses. The decision came during the ICC’s annual meetings in Edinburgh, where major governance and membership updates were also announced.
Cricket West Indies Secures ICC Financial Support
Facing a USD 28 million net loss in 2025 and a projected USD 26 million deficit in 2026, CWI had flagged ICC loans and commercial credit as critical to closing the gap. This isn’t the first time the board has sought assistance—it received ICC funding in 2012 and a USD 3 million loan from the ECB in 2020, later repaid.
ICC Membership Shake-Up: Mauritius In, Canada on Notice
The ICC welcomed Mauritius as its 111th member, expanding its roster to 12 Full Members and 98 Associates. Meanwhile, Cricket Canada must meet reinstatement conditions to lift its suspension, and France Cricket was placed on notice for breaching membership criteria. Sri Lanka Cricket, pending elections, remains sidelined from ICC board meetings.
New ICC Committees Formed
The ICC established two key subcommittees: the Governance Review Committee (featuring BCCI’s Devajit Saikia and Cricket South Africa’s Dr. Mohammed Moosajee) and the Franchise League Committee, chaired by Bangladesh’s Tamim Iqbal. These groups will shape the future of global cricket governance and league structures.
With financial relief secured, CWI now turns its focus to stabilizing operations—while the ICC’s broader reforms signal a new era for the sport’s administration.
