A family of eight was allegedly chased for nearly 15 kilometres and attacked in Nashik after a woman resisted sexual harassment at Bhavli Dam on July 12, police said. The incident escalated when 8-10 men from a nearby village arrived and assaulted the family with sticks and iron rods.
Harassment at Bhavli Dam Triggers Violent Chase
The family had visited the popular picnic spot when two men, aged 20-25, allegedly made lewd comments toward one of the women. After she objected, the men left but returned with a larger group, blocking the family’s car and pursuing them as they drove toward Nashik.
The woman told ANI that the attackers intercepted their vehicle multiple times, smashing windows and assaulting the family whenever they stopped. Her husband described breaking through a toll barricade to escape, only to be attacked again on a narrow road. The family sought help from locals before reaching a police station to file an FIR.
Police Arrest Nine Accused in Nashik Attack
Nashik Superintendent of Police Dhondopant Swami said authorities identified nine accused using CCTV footage and technical analysis. All nine, including those who sheltered the main suspects, have been taken into custody.
Charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, include attempt to murder, robbery, outraging the modesty of a woman, unlawful assembly, and property damage. The family has demanded the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) be invoked against the accused. Further investigation is underway.
