Pinwheel Home is a modern landline phone designed to let kids make voice calls without the distractions of smartphones or screens. The device, aimed at children ages 5 to 10, operates over Wi-Fi and gives parents full control over contacts and calling limits.

Why a landline phone for kids?

As parents seek ways to reduce screen time, Pinwheel Home offers a simple alternative: a phone built only for calls. Studies link excessive screen time to developmental challenges, and this device encourages one-on-one conversations while teaching basic phone skills. Think of it as a training wheel for communication—no texts, no apps, just talking.

Design, pricing, and features

Pinwheel Home comes in two models:

  • Spark: $68, available in white, black, blue, and purple
  • Classic: $79, with a retro handset, customizable stickers, and pink, black, or white colors

Parents manage the device via Pinwheel’s Caregiver Portal, where they can approve contacts, block spam, and set calling schedules. Speed dial and voicemail are included, with future updates adding three-way calling and integration with Pinwheel’s smartwatches and smartphones.

Calling plans and competition

Calls between Pinwheel Home devices are free. For calls to standard numbers, plans start at $6.99/month for five approved contacts or $9.99/month for unlimited calling. The device competes with Tin Can, another Wi-Fi landline for kids, which offers similar parental controls and a $9.99/month plan for friends and family calls.

Pinwheel Home is available now on the company’s website and will launch on Amazon this fall.
