A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district was hospitalised after allegedly consuming acid from a bottle resembling packaged drinking water, prompting a police inquiry. The incident occurred in the Arjun Nagar area under Hapur Nagar Kotwali limits.

Incident details and hospitalisation

According to the woman’s family, she purchased what she believed was a bottle of drinking water from a local shop. After taking a sip, she fell ill and complained of severe discomfort. Family members and locals rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she received first aid before being referred to a higher medical centre in Meerut due to her serious condition.

Police investigation and CCTV evidence

Police from Hapur Nagar Kotwali launched an inquiry after receiving information about the incident. A CCTV video purportedly showing the event has surfaced and is being examined as part of the preliminary investigation. The bottle appeared to be from a well-known packaged drinking water brand but allegedly contained acid instead.

Authorities are investigating how the acid came to be inside the bottle and whether negligence or foul play was involved. Station House Officer Manish Chauhan stated that no formal complaint had been lodged by the victim or her family as of yet. Further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.
