Washington Freedom rewrote T20 cricket history by chasing down 267—the highest successful run chase ever in the format. The match also featured 51 sixes, the most in any T20 game, and three centurions in a single match for the first time.
Record-breaking chase and sixes galore
The 267-run target eclipsed Punjab Kings’ 265 against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024. MI New York blasted 29 sixes, while Freedom responded with 22, shattering the previous T20 record of 42 sixes in a match. Freedom’s 270/4 is now the highest total in MLC history, surpassing San Francisco Unicorns’ 269/5 from 2025.
The match aggregate of 536 runs is the second-highest in T20 cricket, trailing only the 549-run IPL thriller between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and SRH in 2024.
Centurions and partnerships for the ages
Nicholas Pooran (106), Andries Gous (132), and Steven Smith (110*) became the first trio to score centuries in the same T20 match. Gous and Smith’s 241-run partnership is the joint second-highest in T20 history and the highest in domestic T20s, surpassing Kohli and de Villiers’ 229 in IPL 2016.
- Gous became the first USA batter to score an MLC century.
- Pooran’s 31-ball hundred is the second-fastest in franchise T20 cricket, behind only Chris Gayle’s 30-ball effort.
- His 14-ball fifty is the fastest in MLC history.
- Kieron Pollard reached 1001 T20 sixes, joining Chris Gayle as the only batter with 1000+ maximums.
