Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will launch a nationwide signature campaign on Sunday to demand action against those accused of embezzling donations for the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The initiative follows a Sundarkand recitation in Delhi’s Rohini at 10 am, announced by party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Friday.
Kejriwal Accuses BJP of Shielding Accused
Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal alleged that the BJP-led government had failed to investigate the Ram Mandir donation theft, despite documentary evidence. He cited a land purchase by the temple trust—valued at Rs 2 crore but bought for Rs 18 crore—as proof of irregularities. No FIR has been registered, and no arrests have been made, he stated.
CCTV footage of the alleged Chanda-chori (donation theft) was also referenced, with Kejriwal claiming no probe had begun. The campaign, he said, is not just an AAP effort but a movement for all devotees affected by the scandal.
Appeal to Ram Devotees and Letter to PM Modi
Kejriwal urged Sanatani Hindus and Ram Bhakts to participate in large numbers. After the Sundarkand recitation, the party will seek blessings from Hanuman before starting the signature drive. Thousands of Hanuman Chalisa recitations are also planned in Delhi and other locations.
A letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, signed by Ram Bhakts, will accompany the campaign. The letter states that crores of devotees contributed to the temple’s construction, many donating life savings without receipts, trusting the cause. Their faith has been "deeply hurt" by the alleged embezzlement, it reads.
Demand for Capital Punishment
The letter accuses the government of attempting to protect the accused, calling the SIT and FIR in the case a "misleading" effort. It demands capital punishment for those guilty of stealing from the Ram Mandir, stating: “Protecting them is mahapaap (a grave sin).” Kejriwal said the campaign aims to ensure accountability for the theft at "the home of Bhagwan Ram."
