A 7-year-old girl was found dead in the basement of an under-construction mall in Ghaziabad’s Raj Nagar Extension early Saturday, with her family alleging she was gangraped before being killed.

The child, whose parents work as laborers at the site, had been missing since around 7:30 pm on Friday, July 10. Her body was recovered from Basement-2 of the mall late that night after a search by the family and police.

Police response and initial findings

Dial 112 received information about the body at 1:10 am on Saturday, prompting a police team and senior officers to the scene. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team and a dog squad were deployed to collect evidence.

Two suspects have been detained for questioning. The girl’s body was found in a pool of blood with head injuries, police said. Sexual assault is suspected, but confirmation awaits the post-mortem report.

Family allegations and next steps

The victim’s family claims she was lured into the mall with promises of snacks and soft drinks before being gangraped and murdered. Police have not confirmed these allegations.

ACP Priya Sripal stated that a case has been registered based on the family’s complaint, and further legal action is underway. The post-mortem examination will determine the exact cause of death and whether sexual assault occurred.
