A 3-year-old boy died in Chennai on Sunday after a large sewer pipe fell from a crane during underground drainage work in the Puzhal area. The child, Shahrukh Eswaran, was on a scooter with his father when the incident occurred.

The pipe, secured by a rope, snapped mid-operation and struck the child. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries despite multiple blood transfusions. His father, Vignesh, a software employee, escaped unharmed.
