A man jumped into the Yamuna River from Prayagraj’s New Yamuna Bridge on Thursday in an apparent suicide attempt but was rescued by police and local divers. The incident occurred after the man, identified as Annu Gupta, entered the water while accompanied by a woman believed to be his girlfriend, who left the scene immediately afterward.
Rescue operation on New Yamuna Bridge
Eyewitnesses reported the couple had arrived at the bridge with the alleged intention of ending their lives. After Gupta jumped, the woman walked away, prompting police and divers to launch a swift rescue operation. Authorities successfully pulled Gupta from the river and later handed him over to his family.
Police investigation underway
Officials confirmed Gupta is safe and stated they are examining the circumstances leading to the incident. Efforts are also underway to trace the woman who accompanied him. Police said all aspects of the case are under review, with further action dependent on the investigation’s findings.
