Veteran actor Prosenjit Chatterjee on Thursday stated his meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at Nabanna was a courtesy call with no political significance. The Tollywood star addressed reporters afterward, dismissing speculation about his entry into politics.

Prosenjit Meeting Focused on Bengali Cinema

The actor said discussions centered on strengthening West Bengal’s film ecosystem and addressing industry concerns. He also expressed plans to honor late legend Uttam Kumar’s birth anniversary in future years, citing his unmatched contributions to Bengali cinema.

Prosenjit emphasized the need to promote Bengal’s cultural and cinematic heritage through initiatives recognizing iconic figures. He reiterated that any future political affiliation would be publicly announced first.

Speculation Over Political Move Denied

The Nabanna visit had sparked rumors of a political shift, but Prosenjit firmly denied such intentions. He maintained the meeting was solely about film industry and cultural matters, with no hidden agenda.

His clarification follows recent defections from Trinamool Congress to BJP, including three Rajya Sabha MPs. The BJP, with a strong Assembly majority, is expected to win the July 24 bypolls for the vacated seats.
