Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay arrived in Karur on Friday, his first visit since the September 2025 stampede that killed 41 during a TVK rally. He will meet victims' families and hand over appointment orders to 32 kin of the deceased.

Stampede Aftermath and Compensation

The Chief Minister will address survivors and relatives at the Collector’s Office before a public meeting. The stampede occurred during a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam pre-election rally on September 27, 2025, at Atlas Kalaiarangam.

V.P. Mathiyazhagan, TVK’s Karur West district secretary and an accused in the stampede case, welcomed Vijay. Former AIADMK MLAs M.R. Vijayabhaskar and C. Vijayalakshmi, now with TVK, also received the Chief Minister.

Security and Event Arrangements

About 5,000 police personnel, led by ADGP T.S. Anbu, have been deployed for crowd control, traffic regulation, and emergency response. Access to venues is restricted via designated buffer zones to prevent overcrowding.

Digital QR-coded passes were issued to 5,000 cadres for the event, where Vijay will address the public from a campaign vehicle. A silver sword was presented to him by M.R. Vijayabhaskar during the ceremony.

Economic and Political Developments

Vijay will lay the foundation stone for Evervan Kothari Footwear Private Limited, a ₹1,700 crore project near Krishnarayapuram. AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran criticized the government’s decision to provide jobs to stampede victims' families, calling it a violation of equal opportunity principles.
