A fire at a Bangkok bar has killed at least 27 people, with dozens more injured, according to Thailand’s prime minister. The blaze broke out just after midnight on Monday at Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao in the Chatuchak district.

Deadly blaze in popular Bangkok venue

Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after a passing driver reported flames at 23:30 local time. Footage shared on social media showed patrons fleeing through the front door, some engulfed in flames. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed 27 bodies were recovered, with more than 60 others hospitalized.

Initial reports indicate the fire may have started near a cut-out switch, spreading rapidly due to flammable decorations. Bangkok Governor Chatchart Sittipunt noted that blocked exits and obstructed pathways may have hindered evacuations, though a forensic investigation is pending.

Victims trapped inside the bar

A musician performing at the time told officials the fire escalated quickly, forcing patrons to seek refuge in bathrooms, where most bodies were later found. The venue, a well-known restaurant and entertainment spot, sustained severe damage, with blackened walls and collapsed ceilings visible in post-fire images.

Authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the Bangkok bar fire. The investigation will examine potential safety violations, including the placement of merchandise stands near exits.
