A fire at a Bangkok pub early Monday killed at least 27 people, Thai officials confirmed. The blaze broke out at the Na Ladprao pub in northern Bangkok around midnight, with thick smoke and flames forcing patrons to flee.
Firefighters control blaze after deadly Bangkok pub fire
Footage from first responders showed the fire engulfing the venue, with black smoke billowing from its entrance. Firefighters brought the blaze under control within 30 minutes, according to authorities.
Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, speaking at the scene, said 27 fatalities were confirmed and several others hospitalized. The cause remains under investigation, though a musician performing at the pub reported seeing smoke from a circuit breaker near the stage before an explosion and rapid spread of smoke.
Victims found in restrooms as investigation continues
Many of the victims were discovered in the pub’s restrooms at the rear of the building, Charnvirakul noted. Photos of the aftermath revealed charred furniture and severe interior damage.
Thailand has a history of deadly nightlife fires. In 2022, 14 died in a music pub fire in the country’s east. In 2009, 66 were killed and over 200 injured in a New Year’s Eve blaze at Bangkok’s Santika nightclub, reportedly sparked by indoor fireworks.
