Surat is grappling with a severe flood crisis after torrential rain caused creek water levels to rise, submerging streets, homes, and shops across key areas. Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Fire Brigade are evacuating stranded residents as waterlogging cuts off major roads.
Floodwaters Cut Off Parvat Patiya and Godadara
The worst-hit areas include Parvat Patiya and Godadara, where floodwaters have turned roads into rivers, halting vehicular movement. Residential colonies and ground-floor apartments are underwater, leaving thousands stranded. Essential supplies like drinking water and milk are in short supply, with residents scrambling for limited stock.
A viral video captured the chaos outside Baba Memorial Hospital in Dindoli, where a milk delivery truck sparked a rush among desperate locals. Transport remains suspended, and boats are now the primary means of rescue and supply distribution.
Rescue Efforts Intensify as Water Levels Rise
NDRF and fire department teams have rescued over 300 people, including workers stranded at an under-construction site in a low-lying area. NDRF Inspector Parmeshwar confirmed that two teams are deployed across Surat, conducting operations since early morning. Fire Officer Dhaval Mohite reported over 176 rescues, noting that many became trapped after misjudging rising water levels.
Critical infrastructure, including the BRTS bus stand and a petrol pump, is submerged. Authorities have cut electricity in affected zones to prevent accidents, while rescue agencies patrol inundated neighborhoods. With more rain forecasted, officials warn of worsening conditions.
